Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Included in each rental is an ebike, a helmet, a Skye EBikes hi-vis, a pair of cycling gloves, an ebike lock, and a route map.

The legal minimum age to ride an ebike in the United Kingdom is 14, this is set by the Westminister government.

The minimum rider height is 148 cm / 4 feet, 10 inches.

The maximum rider height is 201 cm / 6 foot, 7 inches.

The maximum rider weight as determined by the ebike manufacturers is 100 kg / 15 stone 10 lbs.

We always recommend booking in advance so as to confirm availability of ebikes suitable for your rider heights.

Cancellations can be made up to a week in advance of the rental date, free of charge. Cancellations made within a week of the rental start date incur a fee.

If Skye EBikes determines that the weather on the day of your ride is unsafe for cycling we will initially offer a free change of date if we have availability to do so, if this is not possible we will then issue a refund of your rental fee minus £5 to cover card fees.

We accept payment with most tap, chip and PIN, and magnetic stripe cards bearing a Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Maestro, Visa Electron or Vpay logo.

Apple Pay, Google Wallet, and Samsung Pay are also accepted.

Please note that for our esteemed international customers we highly recommend the use of a fee-free card.

 

We do not currently have child seats or trailers for our ebikes.

We do not currently have pet trailers available for our ebikes.

All of our ebikes have a rear pannier rack. We also supply bungee cords to attach bags to the rack with all of our rentals. The maximum weight on the rack is 25kg.

All of our ebikes come with bike locks as standard.

We provide helmets, hi-vis, and cycling gloves with all of our rentals.

We do not currently offer overnight hire.

Yes, we supply a hand out at the collection session with a map, marked points of interest, and other useful information.

We do not currently offer guided tours, but we do provide a comprehensive map with points of interest marked on it. 

We do not currently offer delivery of ebikes, both collection and drop off is at our main location.

Yes, we have a washroom with a toilet and sink available to use at our location.

We offer two standard collection sessions daily, the first at 09:30 am and the second at 10:15 am.

Drop off is by 6:00 pm, it can also be done anytime earlier in the day.

A fee of £10 per hour per ebike is chargeable at Skye EBikes's discretion after 6:00 pm.

Yes, each of our routes can be completed in a day.

Our location is easily reached by local bus services.

The bus numbers are 57A and 57C both provided by Stagecoach. 

For example you can take the 57A from Portree Square to our location road end (Camus Mor Road - just ask the bus driver!) where it is then a 5/10 minute walk to our location, in this case you would arrive in time for our 10:15 collection session.

There is return buses to Portree through the day.

Please note that there are no buses on Sunday, and times on Saturdays vary.
